Smart Storage Tips
If your car is heading into storage for an extended period, a little preparation goes a long way toward keeping it in great condition. Taking these simple steps now can help prevent avoidable issues and make your first drive back out that much smoother.
Your Winter Roadside Essentials
Before putting your vehicle away, keep the following in mind:
1. Disconnect the battery if the car will be stored long-term to prevent slow battery drain.
2. Add fuel stabilizer to the tank to keep fuel from breaking down over time and to help protect fuel lines and the tank from clogging or corrosion.
3. Clean the vehicle inside and out before storage. Washing the exterior helps prevent corrosion and paint damage caused by road salt, moisture, and grime. Cleaning the interior removes crumbs and food residue that can attract those unwanted critters.
4. Use a car cover to protect against dust buildup and accidental paint damage. Make sure to clean properly before covering! If your car is dusty, wash it with soap and water first, as wiping dust can scratch paint.
Stored With Care
Whether your vehicle will be parked for a few weeks or several months, these small precautions help preserve its condition and give you peace of mind while it’s tucked away.
