Kansas City Automotive Museum Announces Retirement of Longtime Leader Scott Kem and Welcomes Jacob Christopher
Kansas City, MO — The Kansas City Automotive Museum announces the retirement of our beloved team member, Scott Kem, whose leadership and dedication have played an integral role in shaping the museum, and especially The Underground (classical storage facility), into what it is today. Scott’s passion for automotive history and commitment to our mission have left an indelible mark on the museum and the broader Kansas City community.
Though Scott is retiring from his official role, we’re thrilled to share that he will continue to support the museum as a volunteer. His presence and wisdom will remain a part of our daily work, and we are deeply grateful for his continued involvement.
As we bid farewell to Scott in his professional capacity, we are pleased to welcome Jacob Christopher to the Kansas City Automotive Museum team. Jacob brings with him an impressive blend of technical expertise, hands-on restoration experience, and a deep love of automotive history.
A graduate of McPherson College with a Bachelor of Science in Automotive Restoration Technology, Jacob has trained and worked with some of the most respected names in the industry, including Mercedes-Benz Aristocrat in Merriam, Kansas, and the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center in Irvine, California. His restoration experience spans from custom upholstery design to concours-level mechanical restoration. Jacob’s unique skills and his customer service expertise are a perfect fit for the museum’s ongoing efforts to grow the Underground and get the new Kansas City Automotive Museum, located on the three acres adjacent to the Underground, up and running.
Jacob also has experience in automotive literature archiving, mechanical fabrication, and workshop management, all of which will be instrumental as we continue to grow our programming and preservation efforts.
“We’re incredibly fortunate to have had Scott Kem’s leadership over the years,” said Alana Zimmer, KCAM executive director. “And while his shoes are big ones to fill, we’re excited to see Jacob bring new energy and talent to our team. The future of the Kansas City Automotive Museum is bright.”
