Walworth, Wis. – Nov. 21, 2024 – Mecum Auctions will hold its long-running annual classic and collector car auction in Kansas City, this Dec. 5-7 at the Kansas City Convention Center. Celebrating 31 consecutive years in the city and featuring an expected 850 vehicles on offer, the auction will include classic muscle and sports cars, Hot Rods, exotics, antique autos and more, highlighted by a selection of headline-worthy machines that boast fascinating backstories and charitable goals.
The diverse Kansas City lineup is currently led by a limited-edition 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Twister Special Fastback (Lot S149) boasting the desirable 428 CI Super Cobra Jet V-8 engine. The Twister-themed stallion is what is known as a “territorial special,” with these ones delivered exclusively to dealers in the Kansas City region, making their initial debut on Total Performance Day at the Kansas City, district sales office on Nov. 7, 1969. In something of a homecoming event, these coveted Twister Special Mustangs continue to make regular appearances at Mecum’s Kansas City-based auctions, and this one is a truly stellar example.
Other noteworthy offerings in Kansas City include a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado Pickup (Lot F154) built by RealTruck in collaboration with MeatEater that was featured at SEMA 2023 and comes with a charitable twist. The custom “hunting rig” will be offered with proceeds to benefit Folds of Honor, an organization that provides life-changing educational scholarships to the spouses and children of fallen or disabled U.S. service members and first responders. Blip Roaster, a motorcyclists’ cafe in downtown Kansas City, will host a party on Wednesday, Dec. 4 where the truck will be on display before the auction.
Uniquely, a 2024 ArtCar project completed by students at Olathe North High School in Olathe, Kansas, will also be offered, with the proceeds to benefit the Kansas City Automotive Museum. The 2017 Ford Mustang Convertible (Lot F271) served as an amazing hands-on learning opportunity for art students who worked with a wrap artist to design the graphic wrap for the car, automotive students who ensured that the car is mechanically in excellent condition, and journalism students who created a “making of the art car” video.
Private collection offerings in Kansas City will also impress with The Coastal Texas Collection to present nearly 20 no-reserve vehicle offerings from a handful of Corvettes, including a 1957 convertible (Lot F211) in red with white coves, to an iconic 1981 DeLorean DMC-12 (Lot F212) showing just 27,954 miles.
Consignments are still being accepted for Mecum Kansas City 2024, and bidder registration will remain open throughout the duration of the event. For more information on Mecum Kansas City 2024 and all other scheduled Mecum auctions, visit Mecum.com or call (262) 275-5050.
