The first generation Ford GT produced in 2005 – 2006 more closely resembled the 1960’s Ford GT40’s. Whereas the 2 generation Ford GT design started with designing the aerodynamics of the car, optimized for long 12 to 24 hour endurance racing on twisty tracks like Le Mans and Sebring.

Production of the 2nd generation GT started in 2016 and ended in 2022 with 1,350 cars assembled for Ford at the Multimatic company in Toronto.
