1964 1/2 Ford Mustang

This car is among the very first Mustangs produced by Ford. Less than twenty-five earlyproduction 19641⁄2 Mustangs remaining in the USA are still being driven by their original owner. Originally produced in substantial numbers in early 1964, not very many of the 260 V8, 19641⁄2 Mustangs have apparently survived over the years, as they are seldom seen today.

Mr. Grant Martin purchased this Mustang on May 25 , 1964 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, only three weeks after its completion in the Dearborn, Michigan assembly plant. It sold for $2,795. Since then, it has resided in Illinois, Iowa, Texas, Nebraska, Minnesota, Missouri, and Kansas, and was continuously driven for 41 years in all types of weather conditions. It has also toured much of the USA and Canada. As of January 2026, total mileage is over 613,000 miles.

In 2005, this Mustang was finally retired after over four decades of faithful service, all of which was under Mr. Martin’s ownership. The body and interior were restored in 2006 and 2007. This Mustang still has its original engine, which was overhauled in 1989 with new rings and valves at 450,000 miles.

Mr. Martin graciously donated this Mustang to the KC Automotive Museum in December of 2025, where its legacy will be preserved for generations to come.
